Socialization is a process of understanding a certain culture and learning to live in it through inheriting its norms, attitudes, values and believes. Hence socialization in sport is the process of understanding a particular sports norms, value and attitude through interaction with other participants in the same sport. That is, socialization in sport occurs through conduct with socialization agents who include parents, siblings, schools, community and media. Most schools and communities offer sport programs that help to build character of the participant. People get to know about through several forms of media such as newspapers, television and magazines. Information found in these media sources play important role in shaping the sport perception of someone. Again parents are likely to influence their childrens sport participation depending on their past experience because children spend much time with their parents at young age.
Involvement
Involvement in sport provides the perfect opportunity for sport socialization to take place. Sport involvement is the act of directly or indirectly participating in certain sport or sporting event. Direct involvement or participation involve taking role in certain game such as being in a team as a player while indirect refers to inactive role in a certain sport such as being a fan of a given club or team.
Commitment
Commitment goes beyond participation in a given sport. It means showing loyalty to a certain sport or team. It can take the form of Personal commitment which is dominated by obligation which is often a pledge to ones self or commitment as a member of a sporting team. Commitment allows one to pledge his precious time in taking part in event involving his or her team.

Individuals are said to be committed in a given sport if they go extra mile to spend their income to support their team or participate on a certain sporting event regularly.
Being a die-hard fan
These are people who will never for sake their team no matter what happens to it. That they will keep on supporting their team during both good and bad times.

One can show commitment to a given club through availing him or her self to club training as set out in the training rules without faulting and paying the periodic membership fee without failure if any.
Steps in the decision making process for sport consumers.
1. Purchasing reasons
First one will identify the reason why to purchase sport product. This will be based in satisfaction the consumer is anticipating to get from the product. Consumers are likely to take part in sporting even or purchase sport product that gives high level of satisfaction to the consumer.
2. Income level relative to expense level
Income is the major determining factor when making any purchase. One has to compare the cost of buying a given sport product with the income at disposal. If he or she has an extract coins after meeting the basic necessities, then there is high chances of that person buying sport product.
3. Sporting goods purchased
People have different taste and preferences when it comes to goods and services. However the same case applies with sport products. What I am interested in terms of sport is different from that of my friend hence one has to decide on what to spend his money on before spending.
Recently I made a decision to attend a sporting even held at the city. In order to make a viable decision I followed the decision making process steps to arrive at conclusion. The model helped me to make clear cut decision before participating in the event. First I had to find a reason for going there. Then compared the amount of money I had at hand with the cost to be incurred to make sure that it was enough then left for the event.
